What is the Pass Plus course?

The Pass Plus course is a six hour driving lesson course which is undertaken once you have passed your driving test.

This course was introduced in the mid 1990s by the Driving Standards Agency now known as the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency.

There is no test to undertake and all drivers who complete the course receive a certificate of completion from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency.

The reason the Pass Plus course exists is because the criteria to pass your driving test does not cover all aspects of driving e.g.

• You may not get the opportunity to drive at night time on your driving lessons.
• You wouldn't normally drive on the Motorway before passing your driving test.
• You probably won’t have an opportunity to drive at the 70 mph national speed limit within your driving lessons.
• You may not have driven on rural roads or narrow winding country lanes before undertaking your driving test.
• It is unlikely you will have experience driving through a busy town centre.

The Pass Plus course aims to bridge the gap so that you can obtain a higher level of driving experience in the following areas:

• City centre driving
• All weather driving
• Dual carriageway driving
• Motorway driving
• Night driving
• Rural road driving

The main reason for undertaking the Pass Plus course is to obtain further driving experience that will help keep you safe whilst you are out driving by yourself.

The more driving experience you gain, the less chance you have of loosing control of your vehicle if you end up having to negotiate busy, complicated or fast moving roads.

The added bonus of undertaking the Pass Plus course is that certain insurance companies can offer discounts in recognition of the extra training which you have received.

The Pass Plus plus course is ideal for:

• New drivers.
• Drivers who have not driven for a while and would like to refresh their skills.
• Drivers who have been involved in accidents and would like to build up their confidence.
• Drivers who like to assess their current driving skills and aim for a constantly high standard of daily driving.
