The main benefits of undertaking practice driving tests

These are some of the main benefits of undertaking practice driving tests:

To learn driving test routes

As a qualified driver it can be difficult to negotiate complex road junctions that you have never been on before.

Imagine then how much more difficult it would be trying to negotiate unknown roads under strict driving test conditions?

Surely then it is essential to learn driving test routes to give yourself the best chance of passing your driving test.

To build up mental stamina

Driving for 38 to 40 minutes under strict driving test conditions can be mentally draining.

If you have not built up your mental stamina you may find that you can start to switch off during the second half of your driving test and make mistakes.

The more practice tests you undertake the more that you are building up your mental stamina to give yourself the best chance of passing your driving test.

To build up your confidence

For some people just the mention of the words driving test can create feelings of stress and becoming anxious.

It is possible to fail your driving test within the first few minutes due to anxiety taking over. E.g. you forget to position properly when emerging out of the driving test centre car park.

The more practice tests you undertake, the more that you will feel relaxed under driving test conditions.

To assess how you drive under pressure

When driving under pressure you can make mistakes that you wouldn't normally make.

Practice tests help to give you an accurate guide as to how you drive under pressure so that you can work on any faults that come up before you undertake your actual driving test.

Ideally you want to undertake 2 or 3 practice tests so that you can see some improvement between each test.

To save you money and time

If you fail a practice test you can work on your faults and then undertake another practice test a week or so later.

If you fail your actual driving test, you have to pay for:

  • Another driving test at £62 (weekday cost)
  • The hour lesson before your next driving test;
  • The hour for using your instructor’s car for your next driving test;
  • Any training hours that lead up to your next driving test;
  • Not forgetting the possible wait of 3 to 4 months for your next driving test.

It is by far the most cost effective solution to undertake a few practice driving tests with your driving instructor rather than turning your actual driving test day into a practice test which would be a very costly experience.

Conclusion

Surely after reading the above it is best to give yourself the best chance of passing your driving test first time around and utilise practice tests as a valuable driving test preparation method?

Manchester Driver Training launched its 'Second Opinion Mock Test Service', for pupils who are currently learning to drive with other driving schools or family members, who would like an independent driving assessment before undertaking their driving test.

All of our practice driving tests are conducted in the same format as your actual driving test day.
