These are some of the factors that determine your insurance policy quotation
Whether you are looking for your first years insurance policy or a cheaper yearly renewal quote, it is always worth bearing in mind the following:
The power of your vehicle
The higher the power of your vehicle the higher the cost to insure. More power and torque equates to faster acceleration which means more chance of loosing control if you don't drive carefully enough.
The make and model of vehicle
Some cars are more renown for being a target to steal. If you choose a vehicle which is popular to steal then expect a higher insurance policy.
Color of vehicle
Some insurance companies charge more for certain colours of vehicle. This is to do with which color of vehicle has a higher risk of being stolen.
No claims bonus
If you have accumulated a no claims bonus i.e. a year or more of accident or claim free driving, this usually reduces your yearly insurance quotation.
It is important to try to accumulate a no claims bonus for yourself, so make sure if you are a second driver on an insurance policy, that you are also entitled to a no claims bonus as well as the main driver.
Consider a 6 hour Pass Plus Course
Some insurance companies acknowledge that drivers who have undertaken extra training as outlined in the 6 hour Pass Plus course, will be less of an accident risk when driving, so may offer an insurance discount to drivers who hold a Pass Plus certificate. You would need to check at the time of your quotation if your insurance company participates in this scheme.
Your age
Drivers under the age of 30 can unfortunately be offered higher insurance quotations. This is also balanced out against your current driving experience when you ask for your insurance quotation.
Driving experience
New drivers regardless of their age when looking for their first year’s insurance, will find that their quotation is higher due to their lack of driving experience, as they are deemed more of an accident risk.
Telematics box
A telematics box monitors factors like your speed and braking. If you speed too often you could find your insurance policy being revoked. Insurance companies normally offer more substantial discounts if you have a telematics box fitted. Always check if your telematics box has any restrictions regarding driving your vehicle in the evening.
Area that your vehicle is insured in
Certain postcode areas are classed as having a higher risk of car crime than others. If possible always park your car off road at night e.g. on a driveway or in your communal car park.
Points on your Licence
If you have accumulated any points on your licence, e.g. for speeding this can also increase your insurance premium.
